‘Alla Prima Westcliffe’ is an annual competition referring to an outdoor or indoor painting from life and on location, not from photographs.

Calendar Dates - specific details will be posted later:

  • Check-in: Sept 7-10, 9am-4pm at 3rd Street Gallery, Westcliffe, CO 81252
  • Intake: Sept 11, 3-6pm at Lange Hall, Westcliffe, CO 81252
  • Quick Draw: Sept 12, 9am-noon, location TBD
  • Sale & Gala: Sept 12, at Lange Hall, Westcliffe, CO 81252
  • APW Fresh Paint Show: Sept 13-29, at 3rd Street Gallery, Westcliffe, CO 81252
  • Pickup: Sept 28 or 29, at 3rd Street Gallery, Westcliffe, CO 81252

Registration:

  • Entry fee: $50 by August 15, 2025; $60 after
  • Pay online: sangresartguild.org OR mail: Sangres Art Guild, P.O. Box 205, Westcliffe, CO 81252
  • Last day to register: Wednesday, September 10, 2025
  • Limited to 60 participants
  • No refunds

Show Rules:

Eligibility:

  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Membership to Sangres Art Guild is not required, however membership is available for purchase anytime during registration or check-in.

Check-in & Validation:

  • Artists’ blank, unpainted surfaces must be stamped and dated by event staff at check-in.
  • Stamps must be visible to view when finished work is submitted.

Liability:

  • Sign and return liability waivers included in the registration package.
  • SAG holds no liability for personal injury, loss of personal property, venues, or paintings.
  • Entrants and guests are solely responsible for their safety and conduct on private property.
  • Obtain owners’ permission before entering private land.

Artwork Requirements:

  • Create paintings within Custer County between September 7-12, 2025.
  • Paintings must be for sale.
  • Any 2-dimensional medium is accepted.
  • Three paintings (3), with an outer frame limit of 24”x28” may be submitted.
  • Additionally, one (1) miniature painting with outer frame limit of 12”x12” or smaller is accepted.
  • Proper frame with wires for hanging are required, no sawtooth hangers allowed.
  • Gallery wrapped frames are NOT allowed.
  • Include artist’s name, medium, price, and title on the back of all artwork.
  • Artwork must be ready to hang at intake or will not be accepted.
  • Late deliveries and hangings are not accepted.

Sales & Commission:

  • SAG reserves the right to jury out any work.
  • SAG receives a 30% commission on members’ work sold, 40% commission on non-members’ work sold.
  • Buyers may remove purchased artwork upon full payment to SAG.

Artwork Pickup:

  • Optional APW Fresh Paint Show will be displayed at 3rd Street Gallery from Saturday, September 13 until September 29, 2025, unless purchased.
  • Unsold artwork must be removed from 3rd Street Gallery by September 29, 2025.
  • SAG holds no responsibility for artwork left after Sept 29. 2025.
