Light & Motion
First show of the 2025 SAG year begins with focusing on light, in motion, validating the sun, warmth and spring where everything is popping, moving, growing and the appreciation and love of that, however it speaks to the artist! Reception is May 3rd from 1-4, with music and refreshments.

Our illustrious mayor, Paul Wenke, will be selecting the Community Award. If you come to the reception, you may be selecting the Mystery Award. And don't forget, this year we have a First Time Entry Award, being brave could net you $50! Do it!
Reception
The Highland Strings will be playing during the reception with Rich Beattie, guitar singer-songwriter, Jill Beattie, dulcimer, Kim Millet, cello and Barb Saint-Amour on violin.
Together they bring a lively and harmonious mix of original and traditional music with the flavor of the American and Scottish Highlands.

Featured Artist
Featured Artist is Eric Matranga from Canon City. Eric says "Light in Motion actually describes what I try to capture in my paintings. I use the broken brush stroke of the Impressionists and juxtapose intense pigment for effect, particularly my “through the trees” works inspired by the redwood forests of northern California. I keep adjusting my palette to Colorado and enjoy these surroundings of total inspiration".

3 Days of Mixed Media in May!
Join us for a 3-day workshop to explore your artistic side and create personalized masterpieces on canvas. Draw inspiration from themes given by the instructor or bring your own unique theme to life. We'll provide an array of supplies for mixed media collages on 8” x 10” or 9” x 12” canvases. Over the course of three Mondays, you'll have the opportunity to complete up to three artworks, experimenting with different techniques and mediums. This workshop is for all skill levels.
About the Instructor:
Stephanie Amos, our seasoned instructor, will share her passion for art and guide you through the creative process. With a background in multiple art forms, Stephanie's enthusiasm is contagious and will inspire you to tap into your own artistic expression.

Workshop price for Non-Members - $75 (Includes supplies)

2025 Winter/Spring Home School Art Classes
Classes offered in groups:
Grades 1-3
Grades 4-5
Grades 6-7
These classes are offered on the 2nd & 4th Wednesday's of the month, from Jan - May.
*We encourage the parents to drop the students off between 1:45-1:55pm so we may begin classes at 2pm*
Our teachers guide students through art projects in each session, allowing them to creatively express themselves, learn about art techniques and mediums, and learn about the talents of past and present artists!

Colorful Colorado
Celebrating the diversity of this state and the many ways we find color in Color-ado. Whether it is in the foliage, the rocks, mountains, flowers or the many people who inhabit Colorado, the artists all have their own lens and style. During the reception from 1-4pm on June 7th, we will be offering small bird houses to paint for free, come join us, bring your family.

Shadows and Light
Shadows and Light is the theme for July, when the sun is high in the sky, we are reminded about the balance between light and darkness and the value of each. Just as during the dark months we light candles, during the brightest, we honor the shadows in however they speak to us while we are bathed in brilliant light. The reception is July 5thfrom 1-4pm with music and refreshments, please join us.

This show is unique in that it is the Artist's Feedback Show. Ken McGowan, a local renowned artist and teacher will be offering written feedback to artists, should they choose to receive it, on style, design, color, theme, strong points and suggestions. A fabulous opportunity to improve your work and applaud your strengths!
And Stefanie Sere, News Director from KLZR will be selecting the Community Award.
Don't miss these musicians during the reception, July 5th~ Smythe and Taylor, Westcliffe's popular beloved duo. Gary Taylor and TC Smythe have been playing shows for 25 years and have become well known for their harmonies, wide repertoire and songwriting. Gary won the Woody Guthrie Songwriting Award, and S&T were nominated in 5 categories of the Texas Music Awards, winning the “Popular Cover” and “Vocal Group of the Year” awards.

We are so fortunate to have as our featured artist, Ken McGowan from Canon City.
Ken McGowan is a highly experienced and skilled artist with a strong passion for fine art, he has over 45 years of experience teaching and creating art. He has a strong focus on watercolor, acrylic, and pastel mediums and is interested in surrealism, light, and symbolic imagery. Ken is a signature member of the Colorado Watercolor Society and the Pike’s Peak Watercolor Society.
Wildlife, Nature, and Texture Workshop
In Vickie McMillan-Hayes’ acrylic demo and hands-on workshop, you will discover new approaches, techniques, and textures to create your own dynamic paintings. Vickie will demonstrate how to apply unique textures using various mediums and substrate for vivid effects in your paintings. She will also share artistic concepts such as form, composition, design, color, and brushwork, to see the importance of values and light in creating a dramatic painting. Supplies are included.
Sangres Art Guild is pleased to introduce Vickie McMillan-Hayes, a world-renowned wildlife conservation artist, as our guest teaching artist. She has won numerous national awards, been published in well-known books, magazines, articles, and has reviews both nationally and internationally. Vickie has conducted workshops for all ages since 1988.

Wild & Crazy
As the summer heat hazes our minds and vision, we embrace Wild and Crazy, giving voice to something colorful, bizarre and amazing! A perfect venue for the abstract, but whatever style, every artist has a way to express wild and crazy and this is that show. During the reception Aug 2 from 1-4pm we will be sharing an alcohol ink table so guests can paint a colorful tile or magnet to take home for free. Come join the fun!
Community Activist, Bob Fulton, of Big House Concerts, will be selecting the Community Award this month.

Through a Child's Eyes
This is a short, 2 week show before the Plein Air paintings grace the gallery walls Sept 13 called Through a Child’s Eyes. Judged by 3 - 4thgraders this show challenges artists to recall seeing the world from their child eyes. The intake fees will be waived and refreshments are child-centric! Don’t miss this extraordinary show! Bring your children and your own joyful inner child too!

Autumn's Beauty & Bounty
As we dip into the cool weather, observe the changing colors in nature, this show celebrates all that comes with harvest, beauty, bounty, color and autumn. The warmest colors make for the most beautiful show, come celebrate with us and bring your family, you can paint little pumpkins to take home with you! The reception Oct 4th is part of a Westcliffe Wide open gallery day, don’t miss the art, music, specials, demo artists and nature at its most lovely!
Westcliffe's Center for the Performing Arts Elliot Jackson will be choosing the Community Award during the reception.
We will be featuring The Beatties, Rich and Jill Beattie, during the reception, a creative and accomplished duo who have Mountain Music store on Main Street. Richard is a guitarist and singer songwriter and Jill has a love for traditional mountain dulcimer music. Together they harmonize through a wide variety of original and traditional music. Don't miss it!!

Reflections
November begins the darkening of the light, shorter days and more time for reflection. Artists can use this subject as literal, the beautiful reflections of objects in water or as a metaphor. Come see what the artists have to share! Reception is Nov 1st from 1-4pm includes refreshments.
Jordan Hedberg, editor of the Wet Mountain Tribune will be selecting the Community Award.
Musicians will be the gentle and gracious tones of Simple Gifts, Linda Llorraine on autoharp and Barb Saint-Amour, guitar, violin, vocals and harmonies. How perfect for this show theme! You won't want to miss this reception!
Westcliffe's own, Karen LeBlond will be sharing her unique and fabulous pottery creations with us during the reception.
Her influence has always been Oriental and Raku and Terra Sigilatta, Horsehair Firing and Salt Saggar lend themselves well to that. She also loves creating large wall pieces that are low relief and depict the beautiful rugged outdoors of the West and capturing the beauty and intensity of our magnificent Dark Skies and their effect on the Sangre de Cristo Mountains.
Winter Solstice
The last SAG show of the year is the holiday show, sporting tables with small art objects, jewelry, cards and the like as well as the option to make ornaments together during the reception Dec 6th from 1-4pm. Winter Solstice is honoring the depth of darkness, the shortest days, the long shadows and the metaphor for change and transformation. Bring your family and don’t miss this last collective art endeavor of 2025!
Make sure you come in during December to check out the wide variety of small art objects set up and on sale just for your shopping desires, offering your friends and relatives handmade and unique items made in Colorado!
Music during the reception will be performed by The Celtic Mountain Strings. You will love these hammered dulcimers, guitars, mountain dulcimers, violin, cello and Celtic drum playing a wide variety of classic and original Celtic tunes!
We'll be supplying materials to make watercolor ornaments for Christmas, so come to the reception and get your creative fix on!
