scholarships


SAG is proud to have awarded and offered scholarships for over the past 10 years. Whether the funds went to an individual, for supplies, workshops or to field trips, our focus is to continue art education and encourage artists in their contribution to our community and beyond. 

Sangres Art Guild (SAG) will award one $1,000 or two $500 non-renewable scholarships, this year [2025], to a Custer County resident under 25 years of age who will be pursuing further education and/or training in the arts.*

Applications will be reviewed and selection will be made by members of SAG’s Board of Directors.

DEADLINE: Applications must be sent by 11:59pm MST, April 30, 2025

  1. Full Name and contact information, including mailing address
  2.  Age
  3. Parent or legal guardian’s full name and contact information, including mailing address (for applicants under 18)
  4. Statement of your goals and objectives in seeking education and/or training in the arts and how this scholarship will help you achieve them
  5. Letter(s) of recommendation (optional)
  6. List of any scholarships or funding you have already been awarded (if any)

      *SAG reserves the right to withhold funding from a program, project, or workshop.  

      Past Scholarships

      2023 - No scholarships were awarded due to lack of candidates.

      2022 - In May of 2022, SAG awarded Custer County High School graduate Harrison Walter a $1,000 scholarship to pursue a fine arts degree at Colorado Mountain College in Leadville.

      2021 - No scholarships were awarded due to lack of candidates.

      2020 - No scholarships were awarded due to lack of candidates.

      2019 - SAG awarded a $1000 scholarship to Michael B., a local student to continue pursuing an arts-related career at University of Colorado.

      2018 - SAG awarded a $500 scholarship to Michael B., a local high school student to help him pursue an arts-related career at University of Colorado.

      2017 - SAG again provided financial assistance to Custer County School to acquire needed art supplies and a series of learning tools.

      2016 - SAG again sponsored a field trip to the Denver Art Museum for high school art students of Custer County School.  Additionally, SAG purchased needed art supplies for the art students at CCS.

      2015 - SAG re-approved sponsorship of a trip to the Denver Art Museum for art students of Custer County School.
      Additionally, SAG will sponsor several art workshops for home-schooled children in Custer County during 2015 and 2016.  The workshops will provide hands-on experiences in several art mediums and provide a casual exposure to the visual arts.

      2014 - SAG approved sponsorship of a trip to the Denver Art Museum for art students of Custer County School.  Unfortunately, the trip was not able to be fulfilled, so we will roll-over the support in 2015.

      2013 - SAG awarded a $500 scholarship to Maya J., a local high school student to help her pursue an art-related career at Western State Colorado University.

      2012 - SAG provided monetary awards to local art students via their student art show.  The monies were used for the purchase of art supplies to further their education in art.

      2011 - SAG provided a local home-schooled student interested in art, a scholarship to attend the Lorenzo Chavez workshop, hosted by the Sangres Art Guild
